Lyoto Carvalho Machida, the famous and aggressive mixed martial artist, was born on the 30th of May 1978 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil to Yoshizo Machida and Ana Claudia. Yoshizo was a great and highly ranked Japanese master at the Japanese Karate Association branch in Brazil. The American based artist started embracing his passion for karate as early as the age of 3. Lyoto being the son of a resectable karate master, realized his potential in karate when he earned his first black belt at the age of 13.
He began training boxing at the age of 16. At that early age, Lyoto had already started earning awards and trophies to his name. He won several amateur karate tournaments such as the 2001 Pan American Karate Tournament. More passionate about karate, Lyoto went to Thailand to study Thai Boxing (Muay Thai). He also went to Japan to study Grappling.

Lyoto Machida`s began as a professional mixed martial artist while in Japan. He worked under the legendry wrestler and the pioneer of MMA, Antonio Inoki.
Machida`s success began on the 31st of December 2003 when he participated in the Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye 2003 where he fought Rich Franklin (future UFC Middleweight Champion). He, fortunately, defeated Rich during the second round. The victory ushered him to fighting against K-1 kickboxers such as Sam Greco and Michael McDonald and Sam Greco whom he defeated successfully under the MMA rules.
Machida made a triumphant entry into the Ultimate Fighting Championship during the UFC 70 when he beat the undefeated David Heath. He tackled Kazuhiro Nakamura next and won. Machida continued his winning run as he defeated Rameau Thierry Sokodjou at the UFC 79.
Machida was up against former Light Heavy Champion Tito Ortiz during the UFC 84. The tight fight went on with great competition. The Judges ruled in favor of Machida. The win was narrow (30 – 27), but Machida won anyway.
Machida was challenged by the UFC president Dana White that he might receive a title of honor in case he beats the Brazilian fighter, Thiago Silva. Machida was up aginst Mauricio Rua at the UFC 104.
