Diljit Dosanjh was born on 6 January 1984 in Jalandhar Punjab in India to Balbir Singh and Sukhwinder Kaur. He has a younger brother by the name Manjeet Singh and an older sister. He was born from a humble family where his father worked as a bus driver, and he earned $66 a month. Diljit attended his primary school at Ludhiana’s Shri Guru Harkrishan primary school and later attended his high school at Almanar public school, where he graduated his high school diploma.

Diljit began his career as a singer while still in school, where he would perform in local gurudwaras. In 2004, he released his debut album Ishq Da Uda Ada, which was in Finetone Cassettes. He was assisted in making a debut in the Punjabi music industry by Rajinder Singh. In this album, only one song was made into a video, which was the title song of the album.
Still, in 2004, he released his second album Dil which was also in Finetone Cassettes. He released his third album in 2005, which gained him popularity among the people.
